Local woman Breda Mahony is celebrating an incredible 40 years working at Monica’s in Dungarvan.

For decades, Monica’s has been at the heart of the community, and Breda’s story is a testament to its lasting impact.

Speaking with Ollie and Dymphna, Breda fondly recalls March 19th, 1986, the day she first walked into the shop.

What began as a simple visit to buy a piece of elastic quickly turned into a life-changing opportunity.

She was offered a six-month contract that would grow into a remarkable 40-year career.

Mrs O'Toole at Monica's

Mrs O'Toole trained Breda from Day One to fit young people for their school uniforms.

She also instilled in her the importance of every single customer, whether they spend '50 pence or 50 pounds.'

Breda also reflects on the challenges of trading during Covid, during economic downturns, and through social change.

These are qualities that perfectly capture the spirit of Monica’s, which has proudly been serving Dungarvan since 1948.

This is a heartfelt and nostalgic conversation with one of the true pillars of Monica’s.
