Aoife O'Connor and Adam Mernin (both aged 12) were performing for City of Waterford Brass at the Sacred Heart Church, the Folly back in October for The annual Massed Bank Concert. The US Ambassador Reece Smyth was at the event and was so impressed by their performances (Aoife sings and Adam plays the flugelhorn,) that he asked them to play at his residence in Phoenix Park for July 4th. Both are members of WIT Music School, you'll find out more here.
What's happening at Phoenix Park on July 4th?
It will be a big celebration at the residence in the Phoenix Park, and Aoife and Adam will be joined by co-ordinator of the WIT Music School, Julie Quinlan (Adam's Mam,) who will play the keyboard as accompaniment. The songs the trio will perform for the Ambassador on the day are What a Wonderful World, America the Beautiful, and Danny Boy.
Aoife, Adam and Julie all joined me in studio ahead of this exciting event, where the kids spoke about how they became involved with music in the first place, and why they get so much enjoyment from it. Julie says she's immensely proud of the attitude Aoife and Adam have, and that they're a credit to Waterford. She says they've taken this invite in their stride.
