Another Brick in the Hall is a radio documentary by Gayle Corrigan and myself Mary O'Neill. It's about teachers and pupils past and present, of Mount Sion CBS. There's a link to listen back at the bottom of this page.
The programme explores the impact these people have had on arts and culture locally and beyond. The broadcasting of this documentary on my arts programme On the Fringe coincides with the 50th anniversary of the erection of the school hall at Mount Sion, from where one of the interviewees, past pupil and renowned playwright Jim Nolan held his first production.
Another Brick in the Hall is book-ended with sounds of the current Mount Sion choir, who have become something of a global sensation. The remarkable thing about this choir is that Mount Sion School does not have a music class on its curriculum and the boys formed the group from jamming sessions at break time.
Another Brick in the Hall features over 16 different voices of people who have either attended or taught at the school, including that of Dan Mulhall, Irish Ambassador to the USA, and proud Mount Sion man, as well actors, musicians, artists, musical directors, broadcasters and current and former teachers who all believe the school has helped them flourish in their various artistic or cultural fields.
