Gardai still haven’t fined anyone for smoking in a car with children since it was made illegal over two years ago, according to the Irish Daily Mail.

The ban which came into effect on New Year’s Day in 2016 carries a €100 fine – but it can be increased to €1000 if the driver fails to stop or gives incorrect details.

A Health Department Survey carried out in 2015 suggested that one in every five children was exposed to second hand smoke in cars.
