Work continues on state-of-the-art coastguard station for Bonmahon

Work is continuing on a €5.3 million euro state-of-the-art coastguard station in Bonmahon.

The new facility, located on Coastguard Road, will provide the local unit with enhanced storage and will improve training capabilities.

"Work started on the building last September," explained Officer in Charge with Bonmahon Coastguard Brian Fleming.

"It's due for completion this September/October. The building will have changing/kit rooms and the main office will be a communications area. There will be fibre broadband in the station and we will be able to send out drones which will provide live feedback to the station which will allow management teams to make a decision on rescues or whatever the case may be."

Brian adds that there will also be "sizeable" training rooms as well as a vehicle storage area and ample storage for equipment.

"The station will be there for generations to come," he adds.

"It will look after the surrounding areas and promote safety on the water."
