An 18-year-old woman had been jailed for a year for her role in a petrol bomb attack on a family home in Cloyne, Co Cork last year.
Martyna Mocna of The Crescent, Cloyne, Co Cork pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal damage to a house in Cloyne in March 25th 2020.
Cork Circuit Criminal Court heard that Ms Mocna was in company of a man who lit a bottle and threw it at the front door. She smashed the front window.
Judge Sean O’Donnabhain was told that pair were seen on CCTV footage running from the property. They hid behind a van to see what had occurred.
A member of the public spotted the fire and put it out before any serious damage occurred.
Warning
The family were not at home at the time as they had been given a warning a few days previously.
The court heard today that Martyna was not the main instigator of the attack, and she told gardaí at the time that she didn’t appreciate the seriousness of the consequences of their actions.
However, Det Garda Kieran Crowley said that Ms Mocna and the co-accused in the case had a grievance against an occupant of the house.
Det Garda Crowley said that Ms Mocna was “smiling during interview and did not show remorse.”
He said that Mocna had not adhered to her bail conditions and had come to recent Garda attention.
Defence barrister Jeff Hitchmough emphasised that it was the male accomplice who made and threw the petrol bomb.
The case had been adjourned previously to allow Mocna to obtain a place into a treatment centre for addiction issues. However, she hadn’t been successful in securing a place at this juncture.
Judge O’Donnabhain sentenced Mocna to two years in prison, with one year suspended.
