The bumper WLR Waterford Viking Marathon weekend has kicked off with the Children’s Run at the RSC.

Huge crowds gathered for the event which began at 9.30am and featured children of all ages gathering in a fun and inclusive atmosphere.

The run signalled the start of a busy weekend, which also includes the full marathon, half marathon and 10K tomorrow.

Waterford will also stage Ireland’s first ever Disability Friendly Run.

Overall, a record breaking 4,500 participants will take part across the weekend.
