The release of the JNLR ratings for January to December 2023 brings exciting news for WLR as the station continues to lead the way with 64,000 weekly listeners!
This achievement underscores WLR's commitment to delivering quality content and engaging programming to its dedicated and loyal Waterford listeners.
The JNLR report, covering the period January ‘23 to December ‘23 shows that radio enjoys huge listenership with 91% of Irish adults and 87% of 15–34-year-olds listening to radio every week across the country.
Over the past year, WLR has experienced significant growth in daily listenership, with a notable increase of 2,000 listeners compared to the same period last year.
The station's daily reach has now reached an impressive 40,000 listeners, showcasing the consistent appeal of WLR's programming throughout the week.
Programme Director for WLR is Michael Byrne said the station is “thrilled” to lead the way with 64,000 weekly listeners in the Jan-Dec 2023 JNLR ratings. “This success is a testament to the team’s dedication and creativity across all in programmes, news and sport who deliver a top-class service Monday through to Sunday,” he said. “We express our biggest thanks to our loyal listeners for their great support.”
The average radio listening time to WLR is over four hours per day per listener and the smart speaker listening numbers are growing even bigger each week.
Michael Byrne added: “Despite the amount of media on offer in 2024, WLR continues to deliver a growing audience on-air and online, which couldn’t be better news for listeners and advertisers. Waterford people want Waterford news and WLR along with the local newspapers, is keeping Waterford informed.”
In the coming weeks, WLR will update its schedule with some new programmes. It is currently updating its music selection and will launch a new on-air jingle package in April.
