Are you passionate about the environment? Curious about how your local soundscape might be changing in response to climate change? WLR is proud to announce an exciting new opportunity for young people across Waterford to get involved in a groundbreaking environmental project that brings together science, creativity, and community action.
In partnership with the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland (IBI) and the Institute for Climate Sound & Society at Harvard University, WLR is calling on local schools, and community groups working with young people to take part in an innovative new initiative that aims to map climate change through sound.
As part of the national ‘Ours to Protect’ campaign, one participating school or group will be provided with a recording device to document sound recordings of their local area over the coming months. From birdsong to traffic in the distance, these recordings will help create a unique auditory map of how our environment is changing and how climate change may be impacting the natural world around us.
WLR and its partners will provide all the necessary equipment and expert guidance to help participants get started. Whether you’re a youth group leader, a teacher, or part of a community organisation, this is a fantastic opportunity to engage young people with real-world environmental science in a creative and accessible way.
To get involved, simply apply by emailing OTP@WLRFM.COM
‘Ours to Protect’ is brought to you by WLR in collaboration with the IBI and funded by Coimisiún na Meán through the Television Licence Fee.
