An tOireachtas announced today the shortlist for the 2020 Oireachtas Media Awards.
The awards, presented annually, recognise excellence of standard, quality and creativity in the Irish Language media sector. There is a total of twelve categories, catering for traditional and online media, the Rising Star Award being one of the most hotly contested categories.
The recipient of this particular award will be selected by public vote and lines will open on Wednesday, 9th September 2020. The recipient of the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award will be announced on Tuesday, 20th October 2020.
“I congratulate all the nominees on this year’s shortlist”, said Máirín Nic Dhonnchadha, Deputy Director of An tOireachtas. “Content being produced and presented in Irish is on a par with the best available in dominant global languages in terms of substance, expertise and artistic merit. This shortlist represents the people and the productions in Irish language media who have captured the imagination of the public in the last twelve months. We are particularly grateful to them for accompanying us during the difficult early months of the coronavirus pandemic, striving as they did through times of worry and unease to inform and entertain us.”
The Awards Ceremony, a gala event of celebration and a valuable networking occasion for the industry in previous times, will adopt a very different format this year in compliance with regulations regarding the coronavirus pandemic but will adhere to the usual timeline. Award winners therefore will be announced on Wednesday, 28th October 2020, but details of the ceremony will only be released closer to the date.
