The annual WLR Christmas Appeal in aid of Waterford St Vincent De Paul (SVP) returns this year and, sadly, it is needed as much as ever.

Last year, the WLR Christmas Appeal raised in excess of €100,000. These funds went directly towards helping those most in need in Waterford with ongoing day-to-day costs, including education expenses, household food and fuel bills, as well as providing breakfast clubs in local schools.

With the continued rise in the cost of living, more individuals and families are turning to St Vincent de Paul for support. The WLR Christmas Appeal aims not only to raise vital funds, but also to raise awareness of the challenges facing people across Waterford this Christmas.

Return of popular events

This year, many of the most popular events are back, offering fun and meaningful ways for workplaces, schools, community groups and individuals to get involved. These include:

  • Wear Red to Work Day
  • Christmas concerts and performances
  • Waterford City Firemen’s Day
  • And many more community-led fundraisers across the city and county

A full list of events, along with details on how to take part or donate, is available at: https://www.wlrfm.com/hub/christmas-appeal

Vital services

Thanks to the incredible support of local businesses, community groups, and individual supporters, St Vincent de Paul continues to provide vital services in Waterford, helping people in many different ways. This includes support with:

  • Debt and financial worries
  • Domestic and family difficulties
  • Loneliness and social isolation
  • Bereavement and personal crisis

Speaking about this year’s Appeal, WLR CEO Michael Byrne, said: “Every euro raised stays in Waterford and helps someone in our own community. Whether it’s keeping the heat on, putting food on the table, or making sure a child has something for Christmas , the WLR Christmas Appeal makes a real, practical difference. We’re asking everyone who can to get involved in any way – big or small.”

Members of the public, businesses, schools and community organisations are encouraged to host their own fundraiser, take part in one of the scheduled events, or simply make a donation.

If you would like to get involved in any of the events, or if you would like to organise your own fundraiser in aid of the WLR Christmas Appeal, please email Appeal Coordinator Lorraine Dunne at appeal@wlrfm.com.
