The WLR Christmas Appeal 2025 has concluded with another highly successful campaign, raising over €107,000 for St. Vincent de Paul, thanks to the outstanding generosity of listeners and businesses across Waterford City and County.

The appeal, which ran throughout December, was supported by WLR listeners, local businesses, schools, community groups and corporate partners.

Funds raised will provide essential assistance to individuals and families in need this Christmas season and in the months ahead.

Variety of fundraising events

A wide range of fundraising initiatives took place across the county, including the Mark White Fitness Bootcamp Challenge, Coffee Mornings, the Tirlan Farm Auction, Wear Red Day, school collections and donations raised through the WLR radio appeal. These events played a central role in the overall success of the appeal.

Four Christmas concerts held in St. Paul’s and The Sacred Heart in the city, the Friary Dungaravan, and Holy Cross Church Tramore also contributed significantly. Featuring local performers and musicians, the concerts brought communities together while supporting a vital local cause. These concerts will air on WLR over the Christmas period.

Speaking on behalf of WLR and the organising committee, Lorraine Dunne said:

“We are incredibly grateful for the support shown throughout this year’s appeal. The level of participation from across the county, from schools and local events to business sponsorships, has been truly inspiring. The funds raised will make a meaningful difference to people who need support during what can be a very challenging time.”

David O’Neill of St. Vincent de Paul thanked those involved, saying:

“We sincerely thank WLR and the wider Waterford community for their continued support. The funds raised through this year’s appeal will have a significant impact, helping us support individuals and families who are struggling, particularly during the Christmas period.”

Support for the campaign

Corporate sponsors and local businesses played a key role in the campaign’s success, with support from Bausch & Lomb, Dawn Pork & Bacon, WEST, the Port of Waterford, CTS Group, T&T Coaches, Flahavan’s, Haven Pharmacy, Waterford Fire Brigade and many others. Local clubs, including St. Paul’s Boxing Club and Waterford Eastern Gaa Board also made substantial contributions. For a full list of ll the events and supporters, click christmasappeal.ie

WLR CEO Michael Byrne added:

“Raising over €107,000 is an extraordinary achievement and reflects the generosity of our listeners, sponsors and partners. Their support will make a real difference to the lives of many people this Christmas. I’d like to thank the entire WLR team for the excellent work throughout the Christmas Appeal and to the many businesses and groups who made this all possible.”

The success of the WLR Christmas Appeal 2025 highlights the strength of christmas spirit across Waterford, with every donation, large or small, contributing to vital support services delivered by St. Vincent de Paul.
