WIT research centre wins award for work with Boston Scientific Clonmel

Waterford Institute of Technology’s SEAM (South Eastern Applied Materials Centre) Research Centre has won a prestigious award for its work with Boston Scientific Clonmel.

The centre, which is in WIT’s School of Engineering, received the Industry Research Partnership of the Year award in the IMR Manufacturing & Supply Chain Awards 2020.

The award honours research and innovation partners and companies, who have collaborated to create new products, service or formulations and have demonstrated innovation within the last 12 months.

SEAM teamed up with Boston Scientific Clonmel to work on groundbreaking metal 3D printing; a technology that is forecast to revolutionise manufacturing industries.

Dr Ramesh Raghavendra, Director of SEAM Research Centre, WIT said: “We are very pleased to win this Industry Research Partnership award as it recognises our ability to build strong relationships with industries and carry out applied research that fosters innovation, jobs and economic growth. This particular award acknowledges our good working relationship with Boston Scientific Clonmel and collaborative nature of research in the area of additive manufacturing (3D printing) that had huge positive impacts for both organisations.”

Kevin O’Riordan, Senior Manager R & D, Boston Scientific Clonmel remarked: “Excellent achievement in getting this award. This is a great way to highlight and acknowledge the work completed through the partnership that has been between Boston and SEAM over the last few years”.
