A 57 million euro whiskey maturation facility is planned for Waterford.
Waterford Council has granted planning permission to Stafford Bonded - a family business based in Wexford - which intends to develop the store at Waterford Airport Business Park.
Once it is fully developed, the store will include 38 warehouses to store maturing whiskey, as well as offices and meeting rooms.
Michael Stafford Jnr, managing director of Stafford Bonded, welcomed the council’s decision to allow the development of the whiskey facility to begin.
He told the Sunday Independent that the first phase of development, which will include eight warehouses, is to start immediately. He also said the development would create jobs.
Currently, there are 15 staff on the Waterford site, but this is set to grow to 40 over the next three years,the paper reports.
Stafford’s also operates a site in Wexford close to Rosslare Harbour. The Wexford site specialises in bonded storage and logistics of cased alcohol products.
According to their website, Stafford Wholesale trading as Stafford Bonded has a long history in the trade of bonding and brokerage of alcohol products and in the importing, exporting, storage and national distribution of under bond alcohol and tobacco products.
Stafford Bonded counts several well-known whiskey brands as its clients, including Waterford Distillery.
