A new e-bike scheme, which aims to be Ireland’s largest e-bike rental scheme., has been officially launched in Waterford.
The scheme from Renew Enterprises offers the rental of premium e-bikes (Trek Verve+ 2) for any period from one day to two years.
Renew Enterprises is a non-profit social enterprise based in Waterford City that provides employment opportunities to those with criminal histories.
Speaking to WLR News, Manager of Renew Enterprises Sean Darcy says working on their new e-bike scheme has had many benefits for the participants.
"It's a pivotal step in their progression, allowing them to take on more responsibility," he explained.
"If the scheme is a success, that success will transfer back to them through what we offer at Renew Enterprises."
He continued: "We do bike repair and servicing, woodwork etc. Our mission is to provide high quality support and structured employment for those with criminal convictions who are looking to make positive changes in their lives. We see ourselves as empowering the people we work with to make those changes that are necessary in their lives. We help them become reintegrated into society, hold down a steady job, get a regular pay check, learn skills and return to education."
