A young man held at knife-point during a burglary last week, has been left very shaken, according to his mother.
Evelyn's 19-year-old son, who has autism, was at home when two men broke into their house in Ballybeg last Friday evening between 7 and 8pm.
They held a knife to his throat until they were able to flee the scene in a dark-coloured saloon car.
They stole jewellery of huge sentimental value, including a pearl necklace and a silver wedding band.
Speaking to WLR News today, Evelyn says her son has been traumatised by the incident...
"He wasn't physically hurt, thank God," Evelyn told WLR News about her son, "But mentally, I don't know.
"I don't know how long it will take him to get over it. I don't know if he will get over it.
"He's now blaming himself, saying he should have done something, he should have stopped them taking my stuff.
"I've told him, 'you saved the most important thing in my house - that's you'.
"You know, it's hard."
Pearls and wedding ring
When it comes to the items of jewellery stolen, a lot of them would have been worth money, but Evelyn says those are the ones that she's happy to do without.
It's the items that mean a lot to her family that can't be replaced.
"[They stole] my sister's wedding ring. My sister passed away 28 years ago.
"Now, her wedding ring is just a plain silver band. It's not worth anything. I would like to get that back.
"On top of that box was a long, diamond-shaped, really, really old box with my mother's pearls in it.
"My mother is still alive but she willed it to me and gave it to me recently.
"There's an inscription on the inside of that box that says 'To Evelyn, Love Mum' and it has a date on it.
"Those pearls are not real pearls but they are the pearls my father bought for my mother 40 years ago for their 30th wedding anniversary - their 'pearl' wedding anniversary."
Street lights out of order
Evelyn and other residents in the Ballybeg area are now particularly concerned because the street lights have not been working for a number of weeks now.
It's something that she feels may have contributed to her house being targeted.
Waterford City and County Council has been contacted a number of times to get those lights fixed, according to Evelyn.
"A lot of neighbours around here have all come over to find out if we are ok and they were saying it about the lights.
"They told me that a number of them have rang in about the lights.
"So, I rang yesterday and I said to them that I want those lights working tomorrow.
"The guards did get to see some CCTV cameras belonging to neighbours but it's so dark you can actually see nothing.
"Had those lights been working, they would have been caught on camera."
