The Waterford Viking Marathon is proud to announce a major milestone in Irish athletics with the launch of the country’s first-ever Disability-Friendly Run, taking place on Sunday, June 22nd, 2025, as part of the iconic two-day running festival, with the support of Autism Friendly Waterford, Chime, Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind, Brothers of Charity and Rehab Group.
This groundbreaking 8km event is specifically designed to be inclusive and accessible for adults with disabilities, including those with visual impairments, hearing impairments, brain injuries, and a wide range of additional needs. It reflects the Waterford Viking Marathon’s ongoing commitment to creating a race that truly welcomes runners and walkers of all abilities.
Donna Ferris, Brothers of Charity Community & Volunteer Coordinator said, “What I love most about the Disability-Friendly Run is that it truly embodies what the Waterford Viking Marathon is all about — inclusion, community, and heart. This event isn’t just about running; it’s about creating a space where everyone feels welcome and valued, regardless of ability. It’s been incredible to see the wider community come together to support and celebrate something so meaningful.”
