Waterford has once again been named the number‑one destination on Condé Nast Traveller’s “7 Wonders of Ireland” list for 2026, securing the top spot for the second year running.
The news has been warmly received by Visit Waterford, which says the recognition reflects the county’s growing appeal among visitors looking for genuine, experience‑rich places to explore.
“To be named for a second consecutive year is a huge honour and a testament to the incredible natural beauty we have here, from the Copper Coast to the Greenway, and to the passion and dedication of the people and businesses who bring the visitor experience to life every day. This recognition really puts Waterford on the global stage as a must-visit destination.”
The 2026 list shines a spotlight on the Copper Coast and the Waterford Greenway, two of the county’s most celebrated attractions.
Both are praised for offering a fresh take on Ireland’s landscape — from rugged shoreline and hidden coves to long, scenic cycling and walking routes.
The Copper Coast features prominently, with locations such as Trá na mBó, Stradbally Cove, the Guillamene and Kilmurrin highlighted for their dramatic views and unspoiled character.
The Waterford Greenway also earns strong attention, stretching from Waterford City to Dungarvan and guiding visitors past old railway bridges, riverside stretches and the foothills of the Comeragh Mountains.
Condé Nast Traveller also notes stops like Mount Congreve Gardens and The Hat Maker boutique hotel, pointing to a destination that continues to evolve while keeping its sense of place.
Visit Waterford says the back‑to‑back recognition is a credit to the communities, businesses and tourism providers who help shape the visitor experience across the county.
“As more travellers look for meaningful and immersive experiences, Waterford offers something truly special,”
“Whether it’s cycling the Greenway, exploring hidden coves along the coast, or simply taking time to enjoy the scenery and hospitality, there is a sense of discovery here that really resonates with visitors.”
The organisation believes the accolade reflects a wider shift in how people are exploring Ireland, with more travellers seeking out authenticity, natural beauty and a slower, more meaningful pace.
With international attention continuing to grow, Visit Waterford says it looks forward to welcoming visitors eager to discover the landscapes, stories and warm hospitality that have once again earned the county its place among Ireland’s standout destinations.
