Two million euro in funding has been announced to develop Outdoor Recreation at a County Level across Ireland.

As part of this announcement, Waterford is one of six counties to receive a share of funding to introduce County Outdoor Recreation Officers.

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, announced funding of €780,000 to support the development of County Outdoor Recreation Plans and has issued new national guidelines to assist in their preparation.

Each county will now receive funding of up to €30,000 to develop a short, focussed plan to underpin the effective development of their outdoor recreation amenities.

Meanwhile, funding of €1.28m over three years has been approved for a pilot programme to introduce County Outdoor Recreation Officers in six Local Sport Partnerships - including Waterford.

Minister Humphreys said her Department aims to ensure everyone has access to high quality amenities and experiences in the outdoors - and described the funding announcement as a significant opportunity to identify the key outdoor recreation priorities and opportunities for each county.
