Cyclists from across the region will take part in the Sunny South East Cycle 2025 later this week in Waterford.
The fundraising event takes place on Sunday, August 24th, with riders setting off from SETU Arena at 9 am. Participants can choose between three routes – 125km, 80km, or a family-friendly 12km.
The cycle is organised by the Waterford and South Kilkenny branch of Down Syndrome Ireland, with all funds raised going directly to support local families.
Organiser Aoife Ennis, who is also a parent to Croía, who has down syndrome, says the event helps provide essential services that are not always available through the HSE.
“We like to be able to provide services to our members, such as speech and language therapy and occupational therapy. All our fundraising goes towards services and life-enhanced activities for our members, just to give them the best quality of life that they deserve.”
Cyclists on the longer routes will be supported by bike and static marshals, with first aid stops in place at Dungarvan Rugby Club (75km) for the 125km route, and Durrow Car Park (35km) for the 80km route.
The 12km family cycle will begin after the longer-distance participants have departed.
Organisers say it will be a chance to enjoy Waterford’s coastline and countryside while supporting a vital local cause.
