Sinn Féin TD for Waterford David Cullinane has expressed shock as a new response from Transport Infrastructure Ireland confirms that the N25 Waterford to Glenmore Road scheme will not be funded to advance to the next stage (stage 3) in 2025.
Speaking to WLR, he says this means the project will need to wait another year for Government to consider funding the scheme.
Deputy Cullinane said:
“It is outrageous that the N25 Waterford to Glenmore upgrade project has been overlooked for funding this year despite the clear need to improve road safety on this stretch of road.
“The proposal is improve approximately 9.5km between Waterford and Glenmore. This is an important project for the entire South-East. I recently raised this issue with the CEO of Kilkenny County Council. Residents in the area and road users are very concerned given the number of road accidents in this area.
“Transport Infrastructure Ireland have confirmed to me that the project will be kept under review for progression in 2026 and will not receive additional funding in 2025. This is shocking given the obvious road safety issues concerned.
“The N25 scheme has not received any funding since 2022, and won’t receive funding again this year to proceed to design stage and is stuck in phase two.
“This scheme is of vital importance to Waterford, Kilkenny and the entire South East. I will be raising this matter in the Dáil at my earliest opportunity.
“We are being extremely poorly served by our Government TDs who are failing at every step to secure necessary investment in the county and region.”
