Awards were won a-plenty at this year's Big Idea Creative Awards.

The winners were announced at the online Showcase for the multi-award-winning programme.

The Big Idea is delivered through the Leaving Cert Applied and Transition Year programmes, as well as an expanded pilot Youthreach and Community Training Centre programme. It was delivered across 22 counties this year, with a successful pilot programme trialled in Northern Ireland.

Team ‘The Bois’ at Meánscoil San Nioclás in Ring won the Diversity and Inclusion Award for an inclusive mental health journal called ‘Mind Bloggling’,  which supports the emotional wellbeing of young people from all backgrounds.

WLR’s Programme Director, Michael Byrne was a 2023 Mentor for The Big Idea. Michael said “Congratulations to all the schools who took part. There was so much innovation and creativity, and I was impressed by all of ideas this year. I would encourage everyone to view the exhibition online”.

Teachers and tutors were also celebrated too, with teacher Patricia Dunphy of Mercy Secondary School in Waterford receiving a Creativity Champion award.

The winners, along with a selection of Big Ideas from the programme will go on to take part in a Big Idea accelerator in September. The Big Exhibition which includes every project submitted this year is now live at www.thebigidea.ie , where schools and mentors can also sign up for the next term.
