Jessica Ferguson, a student at St John of God NS in Waterford City, was among the national winners at the Green-Schools Poster Competition, receiving her award at a ceremony in Dublin earlier this month.
The competition, part of the Green-Schools Water Programme, invited students to design posters on the theme “Water is Life”. Jessica’s artwork was selected from a record-breaking 4,300 entries from schools across the country.
Speaking at the event, Geoffrey Bourke, Head of Customer Operations at Uisce Éireann, praised the standard of submissions:
“The quantity and quality of entries have been truly incredible. The vital work being done by Green-Schools is clearly bearing fruit in how our young people think about water and the need to conserve it.”
Cathy Baxter, Director of Education at An Taisce, also highlighted the impact of students’ efforts:
“These young people are leading by example and showing that real environmental change begins in our schools and communities.”
Now in its twelfth year, the Green-Schools Water Programme—supported by Uisce Éireann—engaged with 330 schools and over 100,000 students this academic year, encouraging awareness and action around water conservation.
