Waterford City and County lit up in spectacular fashion yesterday as the Winterval drone show took to the skies and Christmas lights were switched on in Dungarvan.

The Winterval drone show saw 150 illuminated drones perform choreographed formations over the River Suir at 7pm. Families and visitors gathered along the quayside to watch swirling snowflakes, twinkling stars, and festive shapes fill the night sky. The display combined cutting-edge technology with a heartwarming soundtrack that captured the spirit of the season.

Trevor Darmody, Festival Director of Winterval, said the event was a milestone for the festival. “The show brought families and visitors together and offered a truly unique festive experience,” he added.

Meanwhile, in Dungarvan, the town’s ‘Big Switch On’ brought music, festivities, and Santa himself, arriving with a fire engine. The Christmas lights illuminated the town centre, officially marking the start of the festive season.

From Waterford City to Dungarvan, the skies were alive with colour and movement. Residents and visitors enjoyed a combination of spectacle and seasonal cheer across the county.

The Winterval drone show and Dungarvan lights switch-on brought communities together, giving Waterford families a memorable start to the Christmas season.
