Waterford shop owner 'shocked' and 'disgusted' after late night burglary

Some time late last night or in the early hours of this morning, the front window of Ryan's Shoe Repair on Patrick's Street was shattered and a Belfast sink stolen from the window display.

Proprietor John Ryan spoke to WLR News and described his shock at arriving on the scene this morning.

The scene at Ryan's Shoe Repair on Patrick's Street.

"After getting back after three months and after painting up the shop - and then for this to happen, it's just very annoying," he said. "As far as I'm concerned this was premeditated. The way the window was broken, it had to be smashed with another implement to get that sink out the window."

John says it's the third time that he's experienced this type of incident.

"I have to go now and get measured up for a grille, that's the way it's gone," he said. "The window is what sells my items. I'm only a small trader just trying to get on with life, make a living, don't put in or out on anyone else and this is what you have to face when you open up on a Thursday morning."
