The South East Technological University (SETU) in Waterford will host an 'Energy and the Economy Roadshow' today.
It's being organised by the European Commission Representation in Ireland and gets underway from 12.30pm.
"The war that Russian unleashed on Ukraine was a stark reminder that our dependency on Russian fossil fuels was not sustainable," a spokesperson has told WLR News.
"Europe simply cannot do business with someone who openly threatens it and wages war against one of its closest neighbours.
"In that sense, our transition to home-grown renewable energy is not only good for the environment, but it has also become a strategic investment in our security.
"Energy policy is also security policy because every kilowatt-hour of electricity we generate from solar, wind, hydropower, or biomass, reduces our dependency on fossil fuels in general."
The Energy and the Economy roadshow asks how can the EU meet this challenge?
Speakers today will include:
- Deirdre Clune, MEP Ireland South
- Jim Power, Economic Analyst
- Paddy Phelan, CEO South East Energy Agency
