A Waterford Senator says the Green Party has received a flood of complaints about trees being felled over the past fortnight.

Grace O’Sullivan says people can’t understand why trees are being cut down on public and private land across the country.

She raised the issue during a debate about the national forestry programme in the Seanad this afternoon.

“The reports are coming from just about every county in Ireland.

“There’s a sadness and a lack of understanding as to why this is happening and the scale of the felling.

“I’ve had reports from Waterford, Dungarvan, Fethard, Faugheen, Kilorglin, Cashel, Bray, Westport, Carrigaline, Limerick, Meath and Roscommon.”
