Dingle hosted the 18th Blas na hÉireann Awards, Ireland’s largest and most influential food awards. The event celebrates excellence in Irish food and drink, attracting hundreds of producers from across the country.
This year, nine Waterford producers were shortlisted across multiple categories. Eight of them won prestigious awards, including Blackwater Distillery, Cocoa by Judit, Coffee House Lane, Dawn Meats, Irish Country Meats, Irish Gourmet Butter, Knockanore Farmhouse Cheese, and Sophie’s Taste Creations, which received Best in County, proudly sponsored by Waterford Local Enterprise Office.
Gareth Evans, Head of Enterprise at Local Enterprise Office Waterford, praised Sophie’s Taste Creations:
“We congratulate Sophie’s Taste Creations on winning the Blas na hÉireann ‘Best in County’ award. Her gluten and sugar-free cakes showcase dedication, creativity, and innovation. She inspires the Waterford food community and highlights the high standards of our local producers.”
This recognition emphasises how Waterford food producers combine skill and innovation to create products that appeal both locally and internationally.
Record-Breaking Year for Blas na hÉireann
This year, the awards received over 3,000 entries in more than 180 categories, a record for Blas na hÉireann. Producers showcased their work at the Blas Village, the Eat Ireland in a Day market, and the Backyard at Blas panel discussions. These events offered opportunities to connect with buyers, industry experts, media, and food enthusiasts.
Artie Clifford, Chairperson of Blas na hÉireann, said:
“The standard rises every year. Seeing Waterford producers shine proves the skill, creativity, and resilience of Ireland’s food community.”
Sustainability also remained a key focus. Waste-free initiatives helped the festival promote a conscious, environmentally friendly future for Irish food production.
