A Waterford priest has been discharged from hospital this evening (Sunday), after being stabbed earlier today.
The incident happened at approximately 9.30am at his residence in Ardkeen, near the hospital.
The priest, who's in his 30s, was attacked and is understood to have received a number of stab wounds.
A man in his 20s was arrested after the alarm was raised.
He remains in Garda custody this evening and WLR News understands a decision as regards charging him will likely be made tomorrow morning.
The victim was being treated in University Hospital Waterford for most of the day for what were being described as serious but not life-threatening injuries.
However, he has since been discharged to continue his recovery at his residence.
In a statement, the Bishop of Waterford and Lismore, Alphonsus Cullinane, has asked people to pray for the priest in question and expressed his shock at the situation.
He has also asked that people pray too for the person who perpetrated the crime.
