The people of Waterford are being urged to take part in this year's Christmas Shoebox Appeal.

This year, Team Hope aim to gather 200,000 shoeboxes for children across 13 different countries.

Nathaniel Ademoye is the Waterford Team Hope Co-Ordinator.

He told WLR News the countries your shoebox might go to include Romania, Ukraine, Belarus.

"You can't believe the smile on the faces of the children when they receive these gifts. The smile, the cheerfulness, the happiness," he said.

Shoeboxes can be filled for boys and girls aged between two and four years old.

As a guide for what to include, think of the four W's; Wash, Write, Wear, and Wow.

Items such as toothbrushes, underwear, pencils, and toys are all welcome.

"As small as they are, to have something in their hands that they can claim to be theirs and brighten their life and see the end of the year on a good note," Nathaniel said.

A €4 donation can be attached to the box or made online.

Shoeboxes can be dropped to a range of drop-off locations.

In Waterford, those include the Team Hope Centre in the Cross Road Business Park, Dealz, First Stop Garages, Geharty Tyres, and Toy Masters.

There is also the option of creating a shoebox online rather than physically doing it.

That can be done on the Team Hope website.
