Waterford native and Ireland’s Ambassador to the United States, Dan Mulhall, was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Liverpool on Tuesday afternoon, 5th December. During Mr Mulhall’s time as Ireland’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom (2013-17), he was a regular speaker at the University of Liverpool’s Institute of Irish Studies.

Mr Mulhall, who was born and reared in Waterford City, was officially installed as the new Irish Ambassador to the United States in September of this year. He took up the role after four years in London. Prior to his departure for Washington, he was made a Freeman of the City of London in recognition of his work as Ireland’s Ambassador to the UK.

Mr Mulhall has previously served as Ambassador to Germany (2009-13) and Ambassador to Malaysia (2001-05), where he was also accredited to Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. In 2005, he was conferred with an Honorary Fellowship by the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland for his work in connection with the Asian tsunami.
