Motorists in Waterford are being urged to take extreme care on the roads this morning.

A status orange warning for ice and low temperatures is in place until midday.

The RSA says as visibility is reduced in such conditions, a collision involving one vehicle can quickly involve many others.

It is asking road users to be mindful of conditions, to check local and national weather forecasts before setting out on a long journey, not to use hot water on windscreens as it can crack glass.

People are also being reminded to switch on fog lights when visibility is reduced and not to drive on the tail lights of the vehicle in front of you.

In heavy fog, turn off your radio and open the driver's window a fraction so you can hear other traffic.

In icy conditions, maneuver gently, slow down, and leave extra distance between you and the vehicle in front.

The RSA asks motorists to watch out for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.
