Despite the sun coming out this morning, road temperatures across Waterford are still below freezing.

That's the warning from Roads Engineer with the council, Gabriel Hynes.

A yellow warning for icy conditions is still in place at the moment.

Speaking Deise Today, Mr Hynes said the driving conditions locally could still be hazardous.

"While the air temperatures are rising, the road surface temperatures are still below freezing," he said.

At about 11am, they were at about -1 degrees and hadn't reached a position of thawing yet.

It was at roughly 6 o'clock yesterday evening that the temperatures began to drop to below zero.

The lowest temperature recorded in Waterford last night was -5 degrees.
