The Policing Authority has appointed a Waterford man to the rank of Chief Superintendent in the Garda Siochana.
Padraig Dunne was fourth on the list of 15 senior officers on a panel drawn up by the Authority following the biggest ever independent selection process.
Padraig Dunne who is at the moment based in Kilkenny is from Kilmacthomas County Waterford.
He was stationed in Waterford for 18 years before working in the garda college, Cork, Tipperary Town and Kilkenny.
There are currently six vacancies at chief superintendent rank, including one in Waterford.
Meanwhile a Waterford based garda has been promoted to Superintendent.
Anthony Petit who is originally from Wexford is one of 18 members of the force nationwide, who are currently inspectors, to be promoted.
He has been based at Waterford Garda Station in Ballyricken for 20 years and has served as Inspector for the last seven and a half years covering serious crimes investigation.
Waterford based Inspector Carmel Banville has been named on the list to be promoted to Superintendent.
