Marcus O’Neill (34) has appeared before Waterford District Court accused of the murder of Tramore woman Gillian Curran.

The accused has been in custody since January 28th with the court awaiting the preparation of the Book of Evidence.

When he last appeared, Mr. O’Neill stated a desire to remain in custody on grounds of safety.

He has been remanded in custody in Cloverhill Prison, with court appearances facilitiated through the videolink service.

Directions were made today for the accused to re-appear via videolink on May 27th.

On this date, it is hoped the directions from the DPP as well as the Book of Evidence will be available to the court.

Following this update in his case, Marcus O’Neill said :”I refuse to go to the Midlands,’ in reference to the Midlands Prison.

He repeated this statement when Judge Kevin Staunton asked him to clarify what he had said.

By way of response, Judge Staunton said: “Where you are sent by the prison authorities is not a matter for me.”
