€200,000 has been granted to Waterford Hospice Movement.
It's part of a €10 million euro pot of funding announced by the government and Health Minister Stephen Donnelly this week.
The funding will help to progress national priorities, including increasing equitable access to palliative care services across Ireland.
Funding will also be used to support palliative care services provided by voluntary organisations and support the financial sustainability of the voluntary hospice sector.
Danette Connolly is the chairperson of the local hospice, and she told WLR News that they are delighted to be included following a difficult 21 months.
"We have a small balance left for the building and that is how we will most likely use the funding which we have received so that we clear that off.
"Now we will be able to concentrate our fundraising efforts on supporting the building and the vital homecare services which we provide," she said.
