Farmers in Waterford will begin receiving payments under the 2025 Beef Welfare Scheme in the coming days. The scheme supports suckler farmers across Ireland, providing funding for meal feeding, vaccinations, and testing of calves.

The Department of Agriculture will issue over €28 million to 24,214 farmers nationwide, supporting 450,895 calves. Waterford farmers will share in €391,636 as part of this year’s scheme.

Fine Gael TD John Cummins said, “The Beef Welfare Scheme 2025 supports farmers in meal feeding suckler calves before and after weaning, in vaccinating against diseases, and carrying out testing measures. This crucial payment will be visible in farmer’s bank accounts in the coming days.”

He added, “This scheme helps farmers improve both animal health and farm efficiency, and it provides real support to rural communities across Waterford.”

Farmers who have received requests for documentation on feeding, vaccination, or testing must submit them to ensure payments are processed. Officials expect all approved payments to appear in farmers’ bank accounts over the coming days.

Discussions are already underway to continue the scheme in 2026 with a further €28 million in funding. The Beef Welfare Scheme Waterford offers welcome support for farmers, helping safeguard livestock health and farm incomes.
