A show of solidarity with demonstrating European farmers took place in County Waterford last night (Tuesday).
Various demonstrations have taken place in countries recently including France, Germany and the Netherlands.
Mark Connors, Environment Chair of Waterford IFA, told WLR News that a rally of support was organised in Kilmacthomas.
"Yesterday afternoon we decided we'd have a small rally of support on the N25 flyover at Kilmacthomas to be seen but not to inconvenience anyone," he explained.
"We thought we might have eight or nine but 20 farmers turned up which is a real sign to show that farmers are hurting."
Mark hopes action will be taken on the issues farmers in Ireland and across Europe are highlighting as he believes many recent measures are "onerous".
"European farmers, including ourselves, feel as though we are being legislated out of business. In Ireland alone, in the last two years there have been 28 separate measures just around the nitrates directive. We don't see any significant improvements in water quality but what we do see is that it's changing the goalposts on family farms."
Showing unity and having a clear direction are essential if the IFA is to achieve its objectives, says Mark who hopes the rally will show some element of momentum.
