Thousands of people from across Waterford City and County are expected to take part in the ‘Darkness Into Light’ walks next month.

The annual fundraiser in aid of mental health charity Pieta House, takes place in the City and Dungarvan on May the 11th.

It’ll see thousands donning the familiar yellow t-shirt and walking from night into daybreak.

Olive Ruane is Pieta House’ fundraising co-ordinator for the South East.

She says ‘Darkness into Light’ has become so much more than just a walk.

“It gets a huge amount of public support right across the county.

“It’s gone beyond a walk, it really has developed into a movement at this stage

“It’s our flagship fundraiser but that aside the level of awareness is really important to us.

“The positive spinoff for people who walk on the night is really wonderful.”
