Waterford crash victim was 100th road death so far this year

The tragic death of a woman in her seventies in a road crash in County Waterford yesterday means the country has reached the grim milestone of 100 roads deaths so far in 2024.

This year's figures indicate road fatalities are trending 15% higher year on year - leading to renewed calls for the government to take further action on the issue.

This day last year, 87 people had died on the roads, and it was August 1st 2023 before 100 fatalities were recorded.

Gardaí are investigating yesterday's collision involving a truck and a car which occurred on the N25 at approximately 9.20am at Garranbane near Dungarvan.
