On developments at Mount Congreve, the team presented an update to Waterford City and County Council this week, reporting strong and sustained growth.

Waterford Council’s June plenary meeting at City Hall heard that the world-renowned visitor destination is on track to deliver a 10 per cent increase in visitor numbers from 2024 to 2025, with total revenue expected to surge by 72 per cent over the same period.

Commercial Director Sara Dolan and Chairman Des Whelan provided the detailed presentation which was met with widespread approval from councillors.

Des Whelan said the board and all involved were privileged to lead the tourism initiative and said recent investment from Waterford Council had resulted in numerous positive developments and an “upward trajectory”.

“We are incredibly proud of the growth we’ve achieved at Mount Congreve Gardens in just two short years,” added Sara Dolan. “We are deeply grateful for the support of Waterford City & County Council and our dedicated board members. Together, we are securing Mount Congreve’s future as one of Ireland’s most important cultural and tourism destinations.”

Visitor Feedback

The meeting heard that Mount Congreve Gardens continues to earn international recognition, with recent accolades from Condé Nast, The Times, Vogue, and more.

Visitor satisfaction is also at an all-time high, with latest survey ratings outlined. Membership numbers are growing strongly as well, with a 20 per cent annual increase in local members.

The meeting heard that a significant driver of this success is the newly introduced luxury accommodation offering on the estate, now accounting for 35 per cent of total revenue.

The meeting heard that the estate’s commercial partners continue to perform well, while the kitchen gardens have seen increased productivity thanks to the horticultural team, supported by volunteers and students.
