School children in County Waterford continue to face hazards from dog faeces.
The school road in Tallow has been highlighted as one local blackspot for dog fouling.
Fianna Fail Councillor Mairead Tobin highlighted the issue at Waterford Council's January Dungarvan/Lismore District meeting.
She said she walks the road every day but spends the whole time warning children to watch where they walk.
"I'm not sure if the adults amongst us think it's acceptable to push the dog foul into the side of the footpath and move on," Cllr Tobin said.
In response, Senior Executive Officer in the Council's Environment department, Ray Moloney, said the local authority continues to engage in awareness measures.
"People walking their dogs in that area need to remember that they have a responsibility in terms of other road uders in that area," he said.
Cllr Tobin added that children need to educate adults about the effects of dog fouling, as it's them who pick up the poop.
"Any child that I see out walking is actually very responsibile and picking up their dog foul," she said.
She believes there should be more awareness and education on the topic in schools.
This would allow children to bring the message home to their family and destroying their amenity and their school road.
