A Waterford councillor has called for affordable housing schemes to be rolled out outside of Waterford City.
Sinn Fein Councillor Conor McGuinness has consistently raised the issue of a shortage of properties in the west of the county.
People will be able to apply for two new schemes in the metropolitan area in the coming weeks.
Speaking at this month's Plenary meeting, Councillor McGuinness asked what the hold up is, questioning whether it was the council executives or the Minister of Housing causing the delay.
According to the local authority's Housing Director, Ivan Grimes, Waterford Council are working to try and bring affordable housing on stream in West Waterford.
"The initial call by the Minister was to prioritise the larger urban areas, but rest assured we will be putting proposals for all across Waterford for affordable schemes in the coming months," he said.
He also said that there are plans in place but they will not be rolled out immediately.
