Waterford councillor Davy Daniels has died today, January 10.
Having been first elected in 1974, he dedicated his life to a long career in politics.
Davy was a Independent councillor for whom a University in Waterford was always a milestone to be achieved.
Described regularly by fellow councillors as being a man true to his word, he unfailingly supported the growth of Waterford throughout the decades.
He was elected as Metropolitan Mayor in 2020 and elected nine times as a local councillor in Waterford.
Davy was one of the longest serving councillors in Ireland.
He told this journalist at the time that being elected for the ninth time was the proudest moment of his career.
