Waterford City and County Council has announced the temporary closure of a section of the popular Dunmore East cliff path.
The local authority says the Dunmore East to Ballymacaw cliff path is closed at Portally Cove until further notice due to the cliff landslip and members of the public are asked not cross through any barriers.
The local authority says it has been working with private landowners and local communities on a small number of walking trails that have been negatively impacted by wet and adverse weather conditions during the winter of 2023/2024.
A new trail alignment has been constructed at Portally Cove with agreement and permission of a local landowner.
However, it has not been officially opened yet. Now that ground conditions have started to dry up somewhat, the local authority says it should be possible to complete the repair works with a new section of fencing.
The statement added: "Waterford City and County Council is aware that the Dunmore East Coastal Walk is a well-used and popular trail and will endeavour to ensure that the remaining works are carried out within the coming weeks."
