Waterford City and County Council have made calls for road users to obey speed limits.

It comes as residents in Dunmore East have raised concerns about speeding on the Killea road in Dunmore East.

Senior Engineer for Roads with the council, Gabriel Hynes, says installing certain speeding measures can cause issues for the emergency services.

"It's a narrow road [and] the curvature is poor enough on it and the speed limit is there.

"It certainly is an enforcement issue [and] people should be driving within the speed limit.

"From an engineering point of view, speed ramps do give a reduction in speeds but they do cause noise and inconvenience for emergency vehicles."

Local councillors have raised concerns and have asked for more signage to be installed in the area, that has a history for speeding according to representatives in the area.

Gabriel continued to say the responsibility does lie with law enforcement when it comes to speeding.

"What we can do initially is review additional signage [alongside] road markings, but drivers need to ensure that they obey the speed limits and the Gardaí have the role of enforcing the rules."
