Waterford City and County Council has launched the second round of the Waterford Community Climate Action Programme, offering €564,000 in funding to help local groups take meaningful steps against climate change.

The funding, provided by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, is open to community groups, sports clubs, residents’ associations, and local organisations. Successful applicants can receive 100% funding for their projects.

Supporting Local Climate and Community Projects

The Community Climate Action Programme in Waterford aims to help communities reduce emissions, save energy, and protect nature. Eligible projects include:

  • Retrofitting or upgrading community buildings for energy efficiency

  • Installing bike parking or electric charging points

  • Starting community gardens or biodiversity projects

  • Reducing waste or promoting recycling initiatives

Susan Lee, Community Climate Action Officer with Waterford City and County Council, said local groups are already making an impact.

“The last round of funding supported solar panels, bike parking, lighting upgrades, and community gardens,” she explained. “These projects not only help the climate but also save money and create shared community spaces.”
