Communities across Waterford are celebrating St. Brigid's Day customs, today February 1st.

There has been a revival in interest in Ireland's only female patron saint in recent times - with a Bank Holiday now dedicated in her honour.

Chrissy Knight O'Connor from Waterford County Museum spoke to WLR this week and outlined many of the traditions associated with St. Brigid including 'Brat Bhríde' which involves leaving a scarf or item of cloting outside to be blessed on St. Brigid's Eve.

Kilrossanty is one community which has been described as having a "thriving" devotion to St. Brigid - with the local church, community hall, GAA Club all dedicated in her honour.
