Waterford bus driver to run as Independent in local elections

Darren Ryan, Ballygunner has just announced his intention to run in next June's local elections as an independent candidate in Waterford City East. He says he will be campaigning on public transport issues and other matters.

Darren is employed as a bus driver with Bus Eireann.

Speaking on the importance of a public transport system, he says it is “intrinsically linked to a better environment, safer roads, social independence, cost of living, helping to relieve traffic congestion. He adds: “With Bus Connects coming on stream and the Waterford metropolitan area transport strategy I feel we now have an opportunity to transform the landscape of public transport in Waterford city and county. I believe I'm in a position to make a significant contribution to bring about this change.

With the current housing crisis the State (NTA) should be providing far more PSO bus services to afford students the opportunity to commute to 3rd level education where no student accommodation is available. “
