Waterford has the highest vaccine uptake rate in the country, according to figures obtained by the Irish Independent newspaper.

The county has an uptake rate of 98.5%.

Neighbouring South East counties also fare well with uptakes in Carlow, Wexford and Tipperary all above 96 percent. In Kilkenny the rate is 89.9 percent.

At the other end of the scale, the breakdown shows, despite having the highest levels of spread of the virus, Monaghan and Donegal have the lowest uptakes of vaccines with just 81 and 83 percent respectively getting jabbed.

The national average is 91.86 percent and the figures are based on adults over the age of 18 from a week ago.

Incidence

The incidence of the virus in Waterford is slightly below the national average of 524.9 at 431.2 per 100,000 population.

According to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) the five day moving average of cases in Waterford is 27.

At University Hospital Waterford, there are five people being treated with Covid-19, none are in ICU.

Nationally there are 335 people with the virus in public hospitals - 52 in ICUs.
